La Generalitat remains steadfast in its battle against tourist accommodations. The conflict enters a new chapter following the announcement by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Marián Cano, that training and guidance sessions will be initiated for municipalities taking on the sanctioning authority against these accommodations to curb "intrusion and fraudulent practices in the sector."
In this way, the General Directorate of Tourism will provide training to municipal technicians to ensure that access and information exchange, as well as the submission of complaints or claims, "are carried out in the best possible way and with all guarantees," specified the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Marián Cano.
The Tourism Minister announced that "in the coming days, this training plan will commence in the city of Valencia, which already has transferred powers, followed by Benidorm, which will soon formalize its adherence." Other municipalities expressing interest in delegating powers in this area include the councils of Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, Castellón, and Benicarló.
These agreements are part of the manifesto signed at the last edition of Fitur between the Generalitat, the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), and the municipalities themselves, to advance in the municipal management of sanctions concerning tourist accommodations.
This collaboration allows municipalities with a Local Police force to assume the management and resolution of sanctioning procedures for infractions related to tourist accommodations. Through this commitment, municipalities can collect the economic sanctions they impose, which will be considered as their own revenue.
On another note, the Tourism Minister has recalled that "the Generalitat is making a significant effort to cleanse and update the Tourism Register database, affecting around 34,000 tourist accommodations."
In fact, she recalled that, in the first phase, a total of 886 tourist accommodations were deregistered at the beginning of March due to the lack of NIF/NIE, and reiterated that "during this first week of April, the second phase of purging and deregistration will begin with those lacking the cadastral reference."
This process is of great importance due to the volume of tourist accommodations it affects, as "among the three provinces, more than 24,000 lack this data," specified Marián Cano.
The Tourism Register of the Valencian Community aims to provide a tool for understanding the tourism sector, enabling the administration to carry out activities of regulation, inspection, control, verification, programming, and planning. To ensure the smooth operation of these activities, an updated Register is essential.
