Beatriz Lorena Ferrández Sánchez: "Since I was a baby, my parents, who are not from here, dressed me as an Alicante bride"

One of the most thrilling experiences of her reign occurred on June 20th, when Beatriz Lorena Ferrández Sánchez was able to climb onto the platform to place the finial of her bonfire alongside the artist. She did so in Hernán Cortés, the commission she represented in 2024.

She has been part of its ranks for nine years, but the festival runs through the veins of this Alicante native. "Since I was a baby, my parents, although they are not from here, dressed me as an Alicante bride, as they had friends in various commissions, and took me to all the events."

Since then, always with her bonfire, she has been an adult lady of honour twice and a bellea. Now she holds the position of candidate for bellea del foc of Alicante 2025. She does so with her eyes set on the grand days of June, which she experienced in a special way during the past year.

"Les Fogueres are those five days when the city is at its most beautiful, filled with light and colour, where behind every corner you can find a bonfire, a racó or a barraca with its portaladas, and above all, they are band music and the smell of gunpowder," she defines the official festivities of Alicante.

Among her memories are also anecdotes, such as one experienced during her time as a lady of honour. "During the Entrada de bandas, a whale bone from my hoop skirt came loose, I stepped on it and fell to the ground." Her cousin's boyfriend, seeing this, tried to help her and "we both fell again and burst out laughing in the middle of the Rambla."
