Baleària and the Marina Dénia Sports and Tourist Port will install a total of 18 micro-reefs that will progressively regenerate marine biodiversity and create a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient environment. This action is the result of a joint project between the Dénia Port Table and the company Ocean Ecostructures, whose main objective is the protection of the biodiversity surrounding the Dénia Port area.

The initiative has involved the installation of eight small reefs in the Marina Dénia and another ten will be installed at the Maritime Station of Baleària. "The concessionary companies of the Dénia Port are especially sensitive to the protection of the marine environment, which is why we seek to promote new initiatives for protection, conservation, and regeneration of the marine environment, in addition to activities that reinforce awareness and citizen science," says the president of the Consultative Port Table and director of Marina Dénia, Gabriel Martínez.
For his part, the general director of Baleària, Georges Bassoul, assures that "this project for the regeneration of marine biodiversity aligns with our environmental commitment and represents a first step to extend it to other ports where we operate."
Ocean Ecostructures is a company that bases its work model on the renaturalization of marine biodiversity on a large scale. To carry out this task, they have developed Bio Boosting System, a unique and pioneering technology in the market. The implementation model is carried out through Life Boosting Units, biomimetic micro-reefs capable of creating a microfauna attraction system, developing natural substrate to maximize life capture, and designing a model of non-interference with the usual operations of the port area.
In addition, the micro-reefs have a monitoring model carried out by underwater drones that allow measuring different parameters such as the biomass generated or CO2 captured. The results obtained from the implementation of this technology in other environments have been very satisfactory, managing to host more than 200 marine species in their natural habitats. All collected data can be consulted in their app.
