High season has kicked off with numerous novelties at Alicante-Elche airport. Major airlines have reopened their seasonal bases and launched new routes to destinations such as Athens, Salzburg, and Riga, among others. From April to October, El Altet terminal will offer 226 routes to 120 cities across 30 countries, connecting with 135 airports through more than thirty airlines, marking an absolute record.

The United Kingdom will once again be the country with the most routes, with over fifty to cities like Newcastle, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Birmingham, and London, among others. Specifically, the English capital, which is the destination with the most air connections from Alicante, will add new flights thanks to Jet2's new base.

The British airline has inaugurated its airport base at London-Luton, adding four more weekly flights to the offering with the UK capital. In this way, Jet2 joins Ryanair and EasyJet on this route to London, which will have 27 weekly flights (15 from EasyJet and 8 from Ryanair).

This is the second base launched by Jet2 in the UK in 2025. The first was in Bournemouth, also adding a new route to Alicante. From the new London base, flights will operate to 17 sunny destinations (nine in Spain), including Alicante.

Jet2 CEO, Steve Heapy, described it as an "incredible day" to see the first flights from "our 13th base in the UK." Heapy recalled that since announcing the opening of this new hub, they received "fantastic demand from passengers and travel agents" and assures that "we are confident in our operations after opening these two new bases."

Thus, the company's new base at London-Luton will offer four weekly flights starting this Thursday, April 3, to Alicante. Connections will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, further expanding the extensive offering with the capital of England.

Connections with London

Another summer season sees Gatwick as the main link between Alicante and London, with up to 52 weekly flights, increasing during peak months. Within this route, EasyJet has nearly 30 weekly operations scheduled with London-Gatwick.

Stansted will be the second with the highest number of operations on a route also operated by Jet2 with two weekly routes. Here, Ryanair will offer the most flights, with 25 a week. It is followed by London-Luton with the aforementioned 27, and in fourth place, Southend, which will have five from EasyJet during this high season.

In total, there will be 116 weekly flights in these first months of high season, increasing by a few more during months like July and August, where traffic grows substantially. To the three 'low cost' airlines, British Airways, Vueling, and Tui Airways are added on the Alicante-London-Gatwick route.
