Villena's Municipal Libraries have released the second edition of the book 'In Their Own Voice, Women in Villena until the Arrival of Democracy', a research project conducted over more than two decades by authors Mati Aliaga Martínez and Lola Milán Ugeda. This book sheds light on the women of Villena and commemorates their roles in various historical moments of the city, as explained today by the director of the Libraries, Francisco García.

This second print run addresses the demand that was not met with the first edition, published in 2023 thanks to the Juan Gil Albert Institute of Culture, commented the Councillor for Culture, María Server.
"The success of this work was overwhelming, and it sold out shortly after its release. Therefore, the Libraries of our city are issuing a second expanded edition, now available for purchase in the city's bookstores," added Server.
The work now being reissued chronicles the lives of over 250 women from Villena who have been silenced throughout history, along with 33 interviews with women who have lived through periods from the Second Republic to the onset of Democracy.
A project to recover the historical memory of Villena through the words and voices of the women who played a central role, yet have been hidden in a male-dominated society where the role of women has been intentionally obscured.

The Municipal Libraries plan to distribute copies of the book to schools and institutes in Villena, as well as to equality organisations and Spanish institutions related to women.
