Six Migrants Injured in the Last Boat of 2024 Arriving in Alicante Province

Six people migrants have been injured with burns of varying severity after their journey to the Alicante coast, where they arrived in a boat at a beach in Villajoyosa, according to the Red Cross.

The precarious vessel carried 15 people, according to the same sources. Of these, six required hospitalisation (the nearest being the Hospital Marina Baixa) for "burns of varying severity", as reported by the humanitarian organisation.

The boat arrived at El Torres beach in La Vila Joiosa on New Year's Eve. From there, the migrants were taken to the port of Alicante, where they received medical attention from 9 p.m. on December 31 until 4 a.m. on January 1.

This is the second boat to reach the province's coast in the last days of 2024. On Monday, December 30, eight migrants landed at Postiguet beach in the city of Alicante.

The National Police have detained five occupants and are searching for three others who fled, all of whom are adults, according to initial reports. The crew threw several packages into the sea from the precarious vessel before landing, as confirmed by this newspaper.

The ERIE AHIC of the Red Cross attended to the five people located by the police. The assistance, as usual, was carried out at the port of Alicante where officials confirmed that they were four men and a pregnant woman, all in good health.

The day with the highest number of migrants arriving by boat on the Alicante coast was November 28, when Maritime Rescue intercepted three vessels off the coast of Alicante, with 73 people on board. One of them had 13 occupants off the coast of Santa Pola. However, the vessel carrying the most migrants was a fishing-type boat with 44 people, intercepted in the area of the Serra Gelada Natural Park.
