As is often the case when Real Madrid faces a Champions League tie at the Santiago Bernabéu with a disadvantage, the drums of war beat louder each day in pursuit of a comeback, this time more challenging than ever after the 3-0 defeat and the dismal performance at the Emirates.

In the midst of this classic atmosphere of heroic desperation in Europe, the league visit to Alavés might seem like a hindrance if not for the fact that another stumble at Mendizorroza threatens to bury Madrid's league hopes, which is significant considering their future in Europe hangs by the thread of a Herculean feat.

The clash at the home of a rival desperate to escape relegation is seen as a turning point by the under-fire Carlo Ancelotti, whose illustrious career does not shield him from doubts about his future at Chamartín should they be knocked out of the Champions League. Winning, staying on Barcelona's tail in the league race, and boosting the morale of a team shaken by the setback in London is crucial. Another chapter will follow to invoke the intimidating atmosphere the Bernabéu generates for any visitor from across Europe.

"It's crucial for us to regain good feelings," admitted Carletto before traveling to Vitoria, acknowledging that his team did less than Arsenal in every aspect, including collective effort, a virtue that has been notably absent in the Whites this season.

No massive rotation

The need to keep up the league fight closes the door on a massive rotation at Madrid, so beyond the return of Lucas Vázquez and Fran García on the flanks, the possible inclusion of Tchouaméni in the defense, or the hypothetical presence of Brahim in the attacking trio, no significant changes are expected in a team under pressure, with the league at stake and the need to regain confidence ahead of Wednesday's epic attempt at the Bernabéu.

Ancelotti may be playing for part of his future in that clash against Arsenal, such is the demand at Real Madrid, but with ample experience, the Italian remains calm, taking it step by step. "The contract is quite clear, I have one more year, and we will talk about the future, as always, at the end of the season. I have nothing to add in this regard, the club always helps and supports me in difficult times," he concluded.
