From 8th to 13th April 2025, as part of Milan Design Week, a series of initiatives combining exhibition, cinema, and emerging design will take place. Alongside Cinema Parentesi, Ortica Studio, and Cecilia Casabona, Mayrit collaborates in a programme that celebrates research, interdisciplinarity, and the exploration of new narratives in design.
Through a collective exhibition, a film screening, and the pop-up 'Cartina Lunga' by Evade House and Erotocomatose, Mayrit's presence in Milan expands the impact of Spanish design on an international level.
'A Drifting Loop' is a collaborative project between Cinema Parentesi, Ortica Studio, and curator Cecilia Casabona, investigating Milan's forgotten waterways and the hidden narratives of design in the city. Through a film and an exhibition, the initiative challenges the cultural centralisation that has shaped Milan's design landscape, highlighting voices and stories that have been marginalised.
Water, used as a metaphor for precariousness ('going adrift'), becomes a symbol of the everyday challenges faced by designers. In the film, a collection of 'failed' design objects—pieces never completed, not marketed, or never left the workshops—reveals broader issues within the design system, especially in a city like Milan, a global epicentre of the industry. Through a speculative narrative, these objects come to life and reconnect with the city's marginalised channels, spaces transformed by urbanisation influenced by power dynamics and cultural exclusion.
The exhibition, taking place at Ortica Studio during Milan Design Week 2025, will present these objects not only as pieces of the film but also as catalysts for reflection. Just like Milan's hidden waterways, these design stories have remained submerged, waiting to be discovered.
With the participation of designers Tellurico, Gaia D'arrigo, Stefania Ruggiero, and Alejandro Cerón, 'A Drifting Loop' proposes a new perspective on fragility and resilience in contemporary design, challenging conventional narratives and offering a platform for recognising non-linear trajectories within the design world.
The event also features the pop-up 'Cartina Lunga' by Evade House and Erotocomatose, an immersive experience that fuses fashion, performance, and narrative.
The exhibition brings together four creators who work from experimentation and critical reflection on design:
A designer specialising in material and narrative exploration in object design. His work combines craftsmanship and technology, investigating the expressive properties of materials. His work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Design Museum in London and the Triennale di Milano.
An artist and designer whose work questions the relationship between form and function. Her approach focuses on the intersection between art and design, with a sensitivity towards sustainability and artisanal processes. Her work has been exhibited on various international design platforms.
A design researcher with a conceptual and material focus. His work explores the boundaries of materiality and perception, with a production ranging from furniture to experimental installations.
A designer who challenges the boundaries between art and design. Her work investigates the relationship between the body and the object, creating pieces that oscillate between functionality and sculptural experimentation.
Cartina Lunga will debut at Milan Design Week with an immersive experience that fuses fashion, performance, and narrative. Created by Evangelina Julia (Evade House) and Laura Petrucci (Erotocomatose), the brand reinterprets hosiery with recycled materials, artisanal lace inspired by Spanish haberdashery, and ancestral silhouettes, transforming it into an object with history and character.
Mayrit Biennial strengthens its connection with Italy through Milan Design Week 2025, collaborating with Cinema Parentesi, Ortica Studio, Evade House, and Erotocomatose to highlight the creative dialogue between the two countries.
Italy has been a key reference for Mayrit, combining tradition and innovation in design. While Italy has established itself in industrial design and material experimentation, Spain brings a conceptual and artisanal vision that challenges conventional boundaries.
This collaboration reaffirms Mayrit's role as a platform for exploration and exchange, consolidating the connection between two scenes that view design as a tool for cultural transformation.
