Local Police Recruitment: Elda Announces 20 New Positions

The Human Resources Department of Elda City Council has announced the recruitment of 20 new local police officers. The council will offer twelve open positions through a merit-based competition and eight mobility positions for officers from other municipalities.

"This reinforces the local government's commitment to public safety and the improvement of public services," explained Elda's Human Resources Councillor, Jesús Sellés. Additionally, this recruitment will fill vacancies created in recent months due to retirements or transfers.

The addition of these 20 local police officers in Elda will be prioritized over "other alternatives such as the installation of surveillance cameras and other devices," the councillor emphasized, noting that the officers will patrol the streets of the Vinalopó region's capital.

This initiative will also renew and rejuvenate the local police force, with a recruitment drive that "includes measures to ensure the inclusion of women," Sellés further detailed. "We believe the best way to protect our citizens is with well-trained professionals who are close to the community."

The recruitment guidelines, to be published in the coming days, will outline the requirements, selection process, and deadlines for applications. With this initiative, Elda reaffirms its commitment to public safety and the quality of life for its residents, advocating for a policing model based on "proximity, prevention, and efficiency."

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Public Safety, Silvia Ibáñez, emphasized that "this recruitment confirms the government's commitment to equipping the local police with the necessary human and material resources to serve the community. In addition to recruiting officers, we have acquired new patrol cars, drones, security equipment, etc., over the past two years."

The councillor stated that "in response to any community concerns or issues, the local police respond and establish specific operations in coordination with the National Police, which holds the authority in public safety matters. We also have officers, such as the Tutor Officer or the Viogen Officer, who specifically handle important issues like gender violence or bullying."
