A town in Alicante could become Spain's brightest this Christmas. This Saturday is the last chance to vote and advance the town to the second phase of the contest, where the winner will be adorned with golden lights in its most iconic spots.

This is part of the 'Golden Touch' initiative launched by the chocolate brand Ferrero Rocher as part of their 'Together We Shine Brighter' campaign. The final push to ensure the preselected Alicante town advances to a new round of voting will conclude this Sunday.

Currently, the town is considered "one of the five most beautiful villages in Spain" according to Ferrero Rocher. Alongside others, it competes for a Christmas illumination aimed at "showcasing beauty, culture, and community spirit."

The town that could be covered in "gold dust" this Christmas in Alicante province is Biar, located in the Alto Vinalopó region. It competes with Ágreda (Soria), El Coronil (Seville), La Adrada (Ávila), and Ribadavia (Ourense).

The historic medieval castle and its pottery tradition are among the reasons Biar is a finalist to become Spain's brightest village this Christmas. Ferrero Rocher describes it as "a treasure of Valencian heritage waiting to be illuminated in the most magical way."

The proposed street in Biar to be illuminated, should it win, is Cura Reig, starting from the Plaza de la Constitución towards the castle and would feature golden plates of its typical local ceramics as motifs. These lights would also adorn the Town Hall facade and the famous 'La Façana' restaurant.

The chocolate brand announces that they would place a total of 420 plates at these points to highlight the streets of Biar. This initiative underscores the culture and identity of this Alicante town through a symbol of its history and beauty.

Voting to select Biar as Spain's brightest village this Christmas will close this Sunday, November 17. Participants can vote in this first phase on the official Ferrero Rocher website, where they can also watch a video of this Alicante town and learn more about its treasures.
