He passed away at 77 after suffering a heart attack

Journalist and founder of the newspaper El Mundo, Víctor de la Serna, passed away this Friday at the age of 77, after suffering a heart attack a few days ago at the doors of the headquarters of Unidad Editorial.

This was announced by the newspaper that De la Serna founded in 1989, where he worked for the last 35 years and where he was deputy director until 2012. He was also responsible for international relations and, in the early years, editor of the Communication supplement.

Three times awarded the National Gastronomy Prize, he was the first Spaniard to graduate with a master's degree from the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York. Additionally, he studied in Geneva, at the Lycée Français in New York, and Law at the Complutense University of Madrid.

He began his professional career at the newspaper 'Informaciones', where he worked for a decade and was a correspondent in the United States, head of the local section, and chief editor.

After heading the press office of the Spanish Publishers Association (AEDE), he joined the newspaper 'El País' and later 'Diario 16', before joining the founding team of 'El Mundo'. He was the author of the Style Book of this last newspaper and its update.
