I-DE, Iberdrola's distribution company, has reaffirmed its commitment to the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the economy in Alicante, focusing on electrification as the sole path to enhancing energy autonomy and competitiveness during the XXI edition of its Networks area meeting.
Guillermo Raga, director of i-DE in the Valencian Community, presided over these sessions, urging the reinforcement of personal safety to minimise electrical risks and ensure protection, as well as environmental care. The management also shared an analysis of the current context, opportunities, and challenges arising from the energy transition.
These meetings, attended by approximately 200 company employees from the province of Alicante, highlighted the importance of electrifying the economy as a sustainability and efficiency strategy based on using electricity instead of fossil fuels, which will reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency, and save costs for households and businesses.
During the sessions held in Alicante, it was noted that all growing industries will require more electricity, making the role of networks essential. "Investment in networks is necessary, as they are key to the development of the economy's electrification and to supply new demands. Distribution companies are ready to invest, as we have the technology, people, talent, and capacity to do so. It is vital that regulators recognise this need and create the conditions for it to happen," highlighted Guillermo Raga, director of i-DE in the Valencian Community.
Iberdrola is committed to electrification to support the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the economy with a focus on innovation and sustainability. The company's goal is to provide a supply network that facilitates this electrification, allowing customers' facilities, whether individuals or businesses, to connect to the grid and advance towards a more sustainable, competitive, and resilient economy.
These meetings concluded with a talk on the operational experience of employees from the province who collaborated at the end of the year with the initial restoration of the electricity supply following the storm in Valencia. Alicante operators, both from the company and collaborating companies, travelled to the affected areas despite the challenges faced in restoring the supply initially and repairing the affected installations.
In the province, i-DE manages over 30,000 km of power lines, has 10,500 service transformation centres, and more than 50 substations. The company maintains an optimal level of service quality for customers, both individuals and businesses, in the province.
The company is undertaking an ambitious network digitalisation plan that enables automated processes to improve service quality. It also continues to work on adapting overhead lines for the care and protection of birdlife.
