The Explanada Vendors Association (AVE) has once again expressed its dissatisfaction with the uncertainty surrounding this market, which has been on the iconic promenade for over 45 years. This time, traders have voiced their concern over the approval of the new Public Road Occupation ordinance at the city's Plenary this Thursday, November 27th.

According to them, the current text only includes the permanent removal of the Explanada market in its sixth transitional provision, without mentioning the relocation of these stalls to another area. "We would like not to doubt the council's willingness to help us, but if they truly had that intention, they would include it or have allowed us to present an alternative to the pier," explained AVE spokesperson, Lucía Ramello.

Among the concerns of the 'hippies' is also the possibility that the Provincial Coastal Service may not grant the City Council the authorization to move the Market to the pier without any other alternative. "We only ask that the City Council fulfill the agreement that enabled a consensual solution with the AVE, allowing us to continue our commercial activity in another area of Alicante city, and not leave us unemployed and without means of livelihood," states Ramelló.
In a statement, the 'hippies' wanted to remind that when the Trade Council and the Plenary voted for the suspension, it was approved with the relocation of the market to another location. "Despite the moratorium granted until January 31st, we still do not have a definitive solution," insisted the representative of the traders.
The AVE insists that the City Council has rejected the five proposed locations, yet the traders have submitted all the required documentation to the Provincial Coastal Service on time. Moreover, they emphasize that removing the market will leave 60 families "on the street."

Therefore, the 'hippies' will attend the Municipal Plenary this Thursday to demand that this ordinance be amended before its approval to include relocation, "as otherwise, the referred agreement will be breached, causing irreparable or very difficult damage to both the AVE and all the vendors who have depended on this market for over 45 years," concludes the statement.
