SUV, 'low-cost' and Chinese: This is the best-selling hybrid car in Spain

MG has achieved a new monthly sales record in Spain, just days after celebrating its fourth anniversary and 75,000 units registered in the country.

The 5,523 registrations in March mark the brand's best monthly sales record and a 112% increase compared to the same month last year. MG has already accumulated 12,917 units in the first quarter of the year, placing it in the top 10 of the absolute ranking by brands, becoming the first Chinese manufacturer to achieve this milestone.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ was the best-selling hybrid car in the private channel during March, with 1,150 units, and second in the overall ranking with 1,295 units.

For the first time in Spain's automotive history, a non-Japanese brand leads the hybrid vehicle market by models in the private channel. It combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 102 HP and a 136 HP electric motor, offering a combined power of 197 HP. This hybrid configuration allows it to obtain the DGT's ECO label, with the associated benefits in terms of mobility and efficiency. It has a certified combined consumption of 5l/100km.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ is available in three trim levels, with prices starting at 22,990 euros.

The MG ZS was also the preferred petrol model among Spanish private buyers in March, with 976 units, and third in the overall ranking with 2,160 units. As a result, the ZS has secured the second position in the absolute sales ranking by models in Spain for March.

MG's success in Spain is attributed to a combination of competitive pricing, comprehensive equipment, an attractive electrified range, and the backing of a major manufacturer. Although some prejudices about its reliability, after-sales service, and spare parts availability persist, the sales figures undoubtedly show that the brand has carved out a niche in the Spanish market.

MG is owned by SAIC Motor, one of China's largest car manufacturers, although its British origins lend it some legitimacy among certain consumers.
