Benidorm Local Police Immobilise British 'Food Truck' Operating Without Licence

As the first sunny and relatively warm days arrive on the Costa Blanca, many, especially tourists, seek refreshment in ice creams like those sold by 'Mr. Whippy', the name emblazoned on a 'food truck' operating in Benidorm. This vehicle has been immobilised by the Local Police of the tourist capital for, among other irregularities, lacking an activity licence.

As has happened in the past with illegal passenger transport services offering transfers between Benidorm and the airport, the ice cream selling van was owned by a British citizen who had been operating in the city for some time. It was finally immobilised by the Local Police near Levante Beach, the city's most visited sandy area.

According to the police spokesperson, Quique Tortosa, the operation was carried out by "transport inspection units", which proceeded to "immobilise an English 'food truck' that was conducting unauthorised transport and street vending at Levante Beach".

During the van inspection process, officers found inside "a large quantity of perishable food without any hygiene or sanitary control". Therefore, Tortosa added, "all the merchandise was seized".

The spokesperson for the Benidorm Local Police reminded that it is "very important to always remember that food products must be purchased from authorised establishments, which are the ones that comply with consumption guarantees".
