Everything is set for Alicante-Elche Airport to kick off what is expected to be its best high season in history. With a seat program that reaches 14.7 million, this is 3.2% more than the same period in 2024. The records at the start of 2025 only confirm the significant growth in terminal traffic.
Following the steady stream of summer schedules from major airlines operating at the Alicante airport and the announcement of new connections, the terminal located in El Altet will reach unprecedented heights by connecting with up to 30 countries.
Thus, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport will have up to 226 routes between March 31 and the end of October, according to airport sources. Connections will link to a total of 135 airports in different countries.
In total, more than thirty airlines will operate from Alicante-Elche Airport, flying to 120 different cities across Europe, including new additions to the flight network such as Athens (Greece), Chisinau (Moldova), and Belgrade (Serbia). Three capitals previously unserved, now accessible via EasyJet, Sky Up, and Wizz Air, respectively.
The major focus is clearly the British market. During 2024, the number of passengers from Great Britain exceeded 6.11 million. In fact, this country will have the most connections, over twenty. The new base of the British Jet2 in London Luton increases routes with Alicante, while launching a connection with Bournemouth, in southern England.
Germany will be the second country with the most connections. More than four airlines will connect with Germany on 15 different routes to cities such as Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, or Munich, among others. A total of 420,000 seats have been scheduled. The other major market will be Poland, which was already the third foreign nationality in passenger volume in February. After a record 2024 with 846,940 travelers, 57.4% more than in 2023, this high season will feature a dozen routes, some of them unprecedented.
In total, there will be more than 30 airlines operating at Alicante-Elche Airport during the high season, with four companies based at the El Altet terminal. Ryanair will once again be dominant with 18 aircraft at its base and a total of 90 routes. The investment, which increases compared to 2024, will allow it to surpass the 7.3 million passengers transported last year. Highlighted routes will include those to the United Kingdom, such as London-Stansted, with 25 weekly frequencies, or Manchester, with another 25.
As for the second airline in traffic, EasyJet will maintain three aircraft based at El Altet and, according to its summer schedule, will operate 24 routes, including two new ones such as Naples and Athens. Norwegian, the fourth company with the highest passenger traffic, will base five aircraft and operate a total of 18 routes, among which the extension to Riga, the capital of Latvia, stands out. As for Vueling, it reduces its aircraft to three and cancels several routes: Rome, Santiago, and Zurich, setting its operations to less than fifteen routes.
The increase in connections is also due, in addition to the strengthening of existing ones, to new ones. Thus, EasyJet launches flights to Athens and the Hungarian Wizz Air will do the same to Belgrade. Sky Up also brings a new connection to the Moldovan capital in its first foray into Alicante.
Ryanair continues to bet on Alicante and, despite canceling the route to Santander, adds two connections to Austria, Linz and Salzburg, and to Poland, specifically to the city of Bydgoszcz. The British EasyJet also extends its winter route to Naples and Norwegian does the same with Riga, increasing frequencies. They are joined by the two mentioned by the low-cost Jet2, to London-Luton and Bournemouth.
