The Alicante Association for the Fight Against Cancer closes the year with nearly 700 people attended

The Alicante Association for the Fight Against Cancer (AACC) concludes the year 2024 having attended to nearly 700 individuals across the province of Alicante through its various programmes and services. In the organisation's year-end review, the inauguration of its new provincial headquarters at the Alicante Medical College is highlighted.

In collaboration with IMED Hospitals, 480 referrals for early detection tests, including mammograms, gynaecology, prostate, and dermatology, were conducted, allowing for more effective identification and treatment of cases, according to AACC.

In the field of rehabilitation, 67 patients with lymphedema received treatment through partnered clinics and professionals, while 35 patients participated in workshops and psychological support sessions, totalling 350 sessions. Additionally, nearly 60 social counselling sessions were conducted, providing guidance on nutrition, pharmacy products, or consultations with the social worker.

The AACC has also been involved in lending orthopaedic material, organising oncology aesthetics and nutrition workshops, and awareness campaigns that reached over 1,000 people on topics such as colon cancer prevention, ovarian cancer, and the impact of smoking.

In the economic sphere, €22,000 was allocated to cancer research through the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), and 22 collaboration agreements were signed with clinics, companies, and professionals to assist cancer patients and their families. Fundraising campaigns, such as charity dinners and solidarity marches, were added to events like the III Oncocongress, which had over 500 attendees, and the Volunteer Meeting in Monóvar, with more than 150 participants.

Pablo Enríquez, president of the AACC, emphasises: "This year we have demonstrated that we not only address the physical needs of patients but also the emotional ones, moving towards a more humane vision of the fight against cancer. We will continue working to ensure our actions reach more people in 2025."
